Liu Yue

Liu Yue, born in 1979, is a gifted painter from the newest generation of Chinese artists. His life, his friends, his feelings, and his generation's youth, have become his motif. He conveys these with tender sentiment, revealing their aimless, drifting young lives. His paintings have the quality of a fresh breath, gentleness and quiet calm. He is not struggling, nor grieving, nor satirizing, but silently smiling, and accepting. His works convey this to all whose eyes light upon them. He uses his color and brush to renew our memory, to remind us how beautiful life is. Large patches of subtle colors are sculpted or handsomely brushed on canvas, sometimes by palette knife, sometimes by brush, like an ink brush, which makes his painting full of gesture and texture. When needed, he adds bright color in special areas, lighting up the painting and giving it life. He grasps his bounding sense of youth and the fragments of his life, finding a way to reveal them on canvas that is dynamic and interesting.
